Independent sample

Market, patent, and commercial research for wrist-worn fall detection

An independent sample showing what a Comprehensive package plus Patent Landscape Research looks like when the question is a medical-device market.

What this sample is

This is an independent sample created from ZKK's own internal hardware program. It is not client work, and no client was involved. The public research in it is real and sourced. The model projections are illustrative, based on stated assumptions, and are not forecasts.

We built it to show the format and method of a Comprehensive engagement combined with Patent Landscape Research, applied to wrist-worn fall detection. You can read the sample report (PDF). Other samples are listed on the Work page.

The question

An internal hardware program needed a grounded view of its United States market, the competitive and patent context, and the commercial assumptions behind a five-year outlook.

That is a typical set of questions for a team that has a device concept and needs to decide how much to invest, what to say to partners or investors, and which assumptions deserve testing first.

What the research covered

The work combined several strands, each producing its own section of the deliverable. In general terms:

  • Market sizing builds a total, serviceable, and obtainable market from documented inputs and assumptions. The method is explained in our guide to TAM, SAM, and SOM for medical devices.
  • Competitor research identifies companies and products in the field and compares positioning and offerings using public sources.
  • Buyer research looks at who purchases or influences the purchase, and what they care about.
  • Patent research organizes publicly available patent information around the technology, with a patent list, a comparison, and a documented search approach.
  • Regulatory and reimbursement research gathers public information on regulatory context, coding, coverage, and payment.
  • Supply-chain research looks at components, suppliers, and related considerations.
  • Pricing research examines how comparable products are priced.
  • Channel research covers the routes by which a product reaches buyers.

The strands feed one another. Pricing and channel findings, for example, shape the inputs to the commercial model.

How the patent landscape fits in

The patent section follows the format of our Patent Landscape Research service: a defined technology scope, a list of identified patents (up to 15 in the standard scope), a comparison of technical features, ownership, and status, and a documented search approach.

This is business and market research from public records. It does not determine patentability, freedom to operate, infringement, or validity, and it is not legal advice. A team acting on this material would take it to qualified patent counsel. Our guide on patent landscape vs freedom to operate explains the difference.

Regulatory and reimbursement sections work the same way. They organize public information as of the report date and are not regulatory opinions, billing guidance, or coding guidance.

The result

The deliverable is a source-supported report with a companion Excel model. The model is editable, so a team can change inputs and rerun the numbers.

The model separates sourced inputs from commercial drivers that have not been measured, so a reader can see which numbers come from public evidence and which are assumptions. It makes the base, downside, and upside cases explicit.

That separation is the point of the format. A projection is only as strong as its assumptions, and a reader should be able to see them, question them, and replace them with their own data as it arrives.

What it would take to do this for you

A Comprehensive package is $3,499, and Patent Landscape Research is $1,349 for up to 15 patents. The Market + Patent Bundle combines Launchpad with the patent work at $2,149. Engagements are fixed price, with 50% to start and 50% on completion, one round of revisions, and a mutual NDA available. Timelines are set during scoping.

The services page has full scope and pricing. If you have a device concept and want to talk through the question, book a discovery call.

Common questions

Is this a real client project?
No. It is an independent sample created from ZKK's own internal hardware program. It is not client work.
Are the model projections forecasts?
No. The public research is real and sourced, but the model projections are illustrative, based on stated assumptions, and are not forecasts.
Does the patent section say whether a product infringes?
No. It is business and market research built from public information. It does not determine patentability, freedom to operate, infringement, or validity. Consult qualified patent counsel for legal conclusions.
Can I edit the model?
The companion model is delivered as an editable Excel file, so a team can change inputs and test base, downside, and upside cases.
